Draft Rush

Build your team. Win your cup. · Product design, Design system, UI design · MoveUp Media · Football fans · Web · Mobile

A football game where fans draft their own team from player cards and take it through a cup, built on a design system of its own.

Context

Draft Rush is the football game of MoveUp Arcade, the collection of short games that MoveUp Media places across its sports sites. Fans build a team by choosing player cards, one decision at a time, then take it through a cup against other teams, with real players and clubs they recognise. Sessions are short, the game speaks Portuguese, English and French, and it plays with fictional chips.

Objective

Make a draft game that anyone understands at first sight and can finish in minutes, with a team and a result worth sharing at the end.

Process

Once the game itself was right, I rebuilt the interface from the product as it shipped. Every screen went into Figma and became part of one design system, with shared components in place of one-off copies. From then on, new screens were designed and approved there before anyone wrote code. Last, I fitted the layouts to the space a phone really has, so almost every screen now works without scrolling.

Identity

The identity starts from the player card, a format football fans know from collecting and from video games. The interface stays neutral so the cards carry the colour, and colour always means something: a win, a good fit between players or the rarity of a card. The logo is a badge made of three player cards.

Outcome

Draft Rush is live on MoveUp Arcade’s platform with its design system behind it, and a Brazilian edition followed, built around the country’s own league and cup.
