Football Brazkit

Data visualizer 1.0 · Product design, Data visualization, Motion design · Own product · Football content creators · Web app

My own product for football data: a match goes in, and a full set of animated graphics comes out, in any brand’s colours and for any screen.

Context

Football Brazkit is a product I created for the people who make football content, from publishers and clubs to agencies and creators. Every match produces data, from the score and the stats to the shots, the line-ups and the ratings. Brazkit starts from a question of reuse. Can one well-designed set of components tell the story of any match, in any brand’s colours and on any screen, without anyone rebuilding the graphics each time?

Objective

Create a reusable way to show football data in motion, at the standard of a broadcast, and find out whether there is real demand for it before it becomes a hosted product.

Process

I designed Brazkit as a system before it had a look. One match file feeds every component, and each component appears as soon as its information is there, so even a match with only the basics produces something useful. The look came out of rounds of review. A flat first version gave way to a deeper background with short callouts, and the product’s story moved ahead of the tour of its parts. The result is an editor where anyone can apply their own colours, edit the numbers and pick the format, from widescreen to vertical.

Identity

The identity is typographic and quiet, so the data can speak. One accent follows the side the story is about while the other side stays neutral, and ratings use performance colours that stay the same for both teams. Every movement on screen has a cause in the match, and nothing is there only to decorate.

Outcome

Brazkit now works with any match: a family of animated components for social feeds, video and the web, and an editor that puts them in any brand’s colours. Its lettering also became the base of this site’s BRAZ RAUL wordmark.

Match data: Sofascore. Crests are federation trademarks.
